Every February, hundreds of thousands of golf fans swarm to the southwest of the United States. Their destination is the Phoenix Open, which set an attendance record in 2016 with more than 201,000 fans watching the tournament. The whopping figures have made the Phoenix Open the most attended golf tournament in the world. While most golf aficionados would assume one of the PGA's four majors to be better attended, those four events pale in comparison to the Phoenix-based golf tournament. What makes Phoenix such a great golf destination isn't just the tournament that puts fans close to the action, but golfers can play the course and experience each perfectly manicure hole from the same vantage point of the top PGA pros. So, why do so many fans attend the Phoenix Open? One reason is it attracts plenty of local golfers, who spend the weekend watching the top pros tee off. But the main reason is the city of Phoenix and its suburbs attract people looking for an escape from the wintry weather of the northern states. It just so happens, many of these warm weather seekers are golf fans, who are able to visit the tournament. There is a new phenomenon for the city's area golf courses. The TPC Scottsdale course, which hosts the Phoenix Open, has seen plenty of new members and guests join during the hot months of summer in recent years. The golfers flocking to Phoenix come from all backgrounds, young and old; and even new graduates from golf colleges looking to learn a little more. Why would anyone in their right mind want to play golf in 100 degrees or more heat? The answer lies in the prices that the TPC Scottsdale course and others offer players who want to try their hand at some of the top-rated pro courses in the US. According to USA Today, the course offers special deals on rounds of golf that drop below $70. That might not sound like much, but this is a professional course that attracts people from around the globe to its greens. They are also venues run by golf management groups that have put some of the best minds in the industry to work to make the courses the best available. Golf trippers vacationing to the Phoenix area just for the courses are increasing. The weather may be hot, but there are ways to stay cool on the course – drive a golf cart, drink water and sports drinks. There is also no chance of getting rained on during a trip to the southwest, which means a planned day to play 18-holes won't get washed out. In fact, many vacationers will play 36 holes in one day. It isn't just the TPC Scottsdale that attracts golfers. There are six courses in the area that have made the bucketlists of golfers worldwide; and playing during the summer can see golfers pay less than half of the greens fees they would in the winter. The quality of the courses is second to none, and with prices lowering greatly in the summertime, the Phoenix area is becoming more and more desirable even when the mercury rises. During off-peak travel seasons, great golf courses around the US cut prices to draw customers. Whether a golfer fancies playing in the heat of summer or finding a course in winter that is still playable – like the ones on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina – there are plenty of great deals to be had. Taking up one of these deals also offers players the chance to enjoy a round on a world-class course for peanuts.
